Kamikaze Karaoke (with a twist!)

Posted in: Karaoke by admin on

Everyone is familiar with Kamikaze Karaoke, but at By Request we do things a bit differently.

We take all the songs people sang in the first hour and put them in a hat. Then we make the contestants pull one of these songs out of the hat. That way everyone has at least heard the song once.

Strategy Hint: Arrive early. Not only can you sing lots and get more of your songs in the hat, you’ll also get to hear the other songs people sing!

Karaoke Song Chain

The KJ gets some contestants, picks his favorite song, and sings it. While KJ is singing his song, contestant #1 must find a song with a title that contains one of the words from the KJ’s title.

Contestant #1 then sings their song.

Contestant #2 then must pick out a song with a title containing a word from contestant #1′s title.

Contestant are out if they either choose not to sing or finish the song or if they cannot find a song title with a word from the previous song title. For example, I may sing “Love Shack”, and you may then decide to do “Money Can’t Buy Me Love”, and the next person might choose “Money For Nothing”.

Karaoke Relay

Also known as the Beatie Boys Syndrome, in Karaoke Relay contestants sing alternating words/lines of a song.

For Example:
Singer 1: Mary
Singer 2: had
Singer1: a
Singer 2: little
Singer 1: lamb
etc…

Bonus points are given for enthusiasm.

Karaoke Sprint

Karaoke Sprint is the karaoke equivalent of the fifty yard dash. Contestants must sing a common song (Mary Had A Little Lamb for example) as fast as they can. Each contestant is timed and the fastest time wins. Contestants are penalized if they don't actually sing the song however!

ZIP Contents Renamer

Zip Contents Rename

ZCR is a useful application which renames the mp3 and cdg files inside a zip file to match the name of the zip file. For example, if you have a zip file named B-52′s – Love Shack.zip but the mp3 and cdg files are named Love Shack – B-52′s, ZCR will change the name of the mp3 and cdg files to B-52′s – Love Shack. This application will also strip any comments from the zip file and remove extraneous files like readme.txt or info.txt.

To install ZCR, simply run the executable and unzip the contents to your desired folder. No files are placed in your Windows System folder, and no dll’s are required other than the ones packaged with the executable. Uninstallation can be performed by simply deleting the folder in which the program is installed.

MP3 + G to ZIP

Mp3g2zip is a must have if you use Audiograbber to rip your karaoke discs. Audiograbber only creates the MP3 and CDG files, but does not do the last step of packaging them in a single zip file. Zipping them is a wise thing to do since most cdg files can be compressed by 80-90%!
