The Wine Box

Last Friday I was providing the equipment and sound for a wedding ceremony at Season’s At Rose Creek in Fargo ND. The wedding was outdoors in a tent, it did rain and the bride and groom were prepared for that. The back drop was a golf course with a fountain spraying water up to 50 feet.

I have done quite a few wedding ceremonies. There are many little ceremonies inside the wedding ceremony itself these days. I think almost everyone is familiar of the lighting of the unity candle.

If the bride and groom have children previous to their relationship, they may use the Blending Of The Sand. This ceremony is intended to unite not just the couple, but the children and the couple as a family together in marriage. They will pick out a decorative glass bottle or vase and each member (daughters, sons, husband and wife) will pour a different color of sand into the bottle making a beautiful masterpiece that symobolizes their family unity.

I will now explain the Wine Box ceremony:

The bride and groom got a beautiful Wine Box and put it on a small table in front of the pews. The bride and groom had each written down on several slips of paper, their hopes, their dreams, what it was they loved about each other and how they saw their future on that day. They also wrote love letters to each other. This was put in a decorative box along with a bottle of wine. The parents and the bride and groom then each nailed one nail to seal the box shut. There was a decorative hammer that was laying beside the wine box just for this occasion. The minister then explained to everyone what was inside the box. The couple was to wait and open the box on their 5th wedding anniversary and read their love letters to each other and drink the wine.
